Lloyd Ward, et al. v. John Clark Long IV

Terminating a partnership can be one of the most difficult and stressful things a person can go through in their professional career.  When our client and his law partner decided that it was time to go their separate ways, things did not proceed amicably.  Having been opposing counsel to the Ayres Law Office, a Dallas lawyer turned to us to help him defend the contentious case against his ex-partner.

Challenge:

Our opponent sought to focus his time and energy on multiple theories, demanding significant damages and relief that would effectively make it difficult for our client to operate a viable law practice in the future.

Solution:

After dissecting the damage model of our opponent in a line-by-line fashion, we saw potential inaccuracies.  We narrowed the focus of the lawsuit by crafting the story throughout discovery, ultimately leading to a recommended against pre-trial settlement.  Careful attention was provided at trial to keep matters simple and organized, repeatedly attempting to demonstrate our client’s reasonableness and adherence to the agreement drafted by the parties.

Result:

We defended the case at trial and received a jury verdict and judgment of no-liability for our client, far exceeding his expectations.
